Automotive Industry Action Group Online
This site was referred to me by David Doyle – another APICS discussion list participant. This is a truly stupendous collection of links for companies, networks, and organizations involved in the automobile industry.

Automatic Identification Manufacturers
This site bills itself as, the global source for technically accurate, unbiased, commercial-free and up-to-date information on all Automatic Identification and Data Capture. It deals with technologies that include barcode, RFID, card technologies, biometrics, RFDC, and their associated industries. The site itself offers over a dozen case studies, information on training tools and standards, and a database of member companies. This site comes highly recommended by over a dozen APICS discussion list participants.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Site was designed by someone who cares a lot more for pizzazz than for load times, but offers news, publications, and access to an engineering software database. The software archive is located at http://www.mecheng.asme.org/ and loads quickly.

American Society for Quality (ASQ)
Site offers basic information about quality and quality improvement programs, a glossary of term, reviews of ISO-9000 and ISO-14000, information about the Malcolm Baldridge award, and more.

American National Standards
The full title of the site is American National Standards Institute, which pretty much says it all. If you need information on an ANSI standard, you can order it here from the source.

American Supplier Institute
The American Supplier Institute (ASI) is a nonprofit, employee-owned company with the mission of helping organizations meet the needs of customers through research, training, implementation and publications on quality improvement techniques. Site takes a long time to load, but features sections on the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ), Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Taguchi Methods, and manufacturing systems. If you want to learn more about these topics, this looks like a good place to start – and it’s free!

Appliancemagazine.Com
Site is divided into consumer and manufacturer sections, the latter tagged as Serving the producers of consumer, commercial, business, and medical appliances worldwide. Includes three years of monthly shipment statistics for a wide range of appliances, online supplier directory, market research, and a manufacturing feature of the month. Looks like a nice source for basic manufacturing information on these goods.

Associated Quality Consultants, Inc’s Index of Lists
This page contains a fairly comprehensive list of active E-mail discussion lists focusing on quality issues, include the Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Total Quality Management (TQM) lists.

Automatic ID News
Provides a product database that allows visitors to search by company name, product category, and type of application.

Automation List
The purpose of the maillist automation@control.com is to provide a non-commercial forum for the discussion of automation topics, including PLCs, plant networks, and general automation concerns. This is a subscription page for access to an E-mail discussion list that was recommended by several APICS members.

Avraham Y. Goldratt Institute
Sponsor is an international educational organization committed to common sense approaches to problems and improvements, as well as the tools used to make them possible, are available through the Theory Of Constraints. Site features a number of TOC success stories.

Bar Code 1
Free information and resources relating to bar codes and bar code products, include information on bar code specifications, downloadable Shareware, an online bulletin board, a link page, and more. The sponsor does not sell bar code products and claims to offer unbiased information.

Beginners Central
Online tutorial aimed at people new to the Internet. Guides users through basic concepts and practical steps for using the Internet, with a focus on the Web. Each chapter ends with a brief summary and quiz.

Best Manufacturing Practices
Site sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. Provides downloadable and online tools for assessing best practices, risk, and guidance for program managers. Site contains a number of interesting surveys and case studies that are best accessed via the search button – search for publications. Program managers working on federal contracts may find this site useful.

@brint.com
Site bills itself as, The Premier Resource for Contemporary Business, Management & Technology Issues, and does not fall far short of the mark. Site features extensive links to a wide range of other resources, research papers, discussion forum on knowledge management, articles, interviews, presentations, and more. This is an exceptionally rich site.

BusinessWeek
No list of business-related sites would be complete without at least one traditional business magazine. I selected this site because it lets visitors search, browse, and read more than 40,000 stories dating back to 1991.

Canadian Association of Logistics Management
Site includes selected articles from its Logistics Quarterly magazine, available free online.

CARGOLOG Transportation and Logistics Directory
This site, referred to me by several APICS list subscribers, maintains an extensive database of Transportation and Logistics companies that lets you search by company name, geographic location, or business activity.

Center of Excellence for Composites Manufacturing Technology
GLCC, Inc., is a not-for-profit, membership-owned organization dedicated to strengthening the production capabilities of U.S. industry in the vital areas of advanced composites technology. The site is pretty sparse at the time of this review, but says that it will be offering a number of video and other publications related to this technology.

An excellent link page for all management professionals.

CERA Research
Lists some interesting multi-client study papers. The full studies are not freely available, but the summaries are intriguing.

Chemical Industry Home Page
This page is maintained by the National Environmental Information Service and offers the most complete set of links to the chemical industry that I have found. Major sub-pages include Chemical Industry Associations, Management Resources, Chemical and Process Engineering Resources, Chemical Sales Resources, Environmental Resources, Analytical Chemistry Resources, Chemical Companies' Websites, Miscellaneous Chemistry Resources, and more.

CIAC
This site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and maintains a massive archive of security alerts, a computer virus database, and a virus hoax page. You may also subscribe to free E-mail bulletins that outline technical security problems. Non-technical folks will probably find the virus hoax page located at http://ciac/llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html most useful; PLEASE consult this page before you pass on warnings about some new E-mail virus!

Department of Defense ManTech
This Program focuses on the needs of weapon system programs for affordable, low-risk development and production. It provides the crucial link between technology invention and development, and industrial applications. It matures and validates emerging manufacturing technologies to support low-risk implementation in industry and DoD facilities, e.g., depots and shipyards. The Program addresses production issues from system development through transition to production and sustainment. Directory of Forest Products…
The full title of this site is the Directory of Forest Products, Wood Science, and Marketing. This site at the University of Washington features a collection of over 490 WWW links to information about pulp and paper, wood, or wood-related products, manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, associations, sustainability, academic institutions, research centers, publications, and more. This is a well-organized link page for other sites.

eAuto
This site provides information on everything auto, including auto makers, dealers, parts, accessories, sports, news, services, etc. Each topic is covered in a unique discussion list.

EDS Year 2000 Vendor Database
Sponsored by EDS, this is a free resource that provides Year 2000 compliance data on more than 129,000 products from over 3,000 companies. The site allows queries by vendor or product. The results page lists Year 2000 contact information for the product or company in question. It also offers to display a list of products or lets you select a specific one. Product data shows each product name along with the minimum compliant version.

This site bills itself as the largest online resource in electronics, including DSP, embedded systems, realtime, board-level computing, and software development for electronics. Information is organized in both links (far too many to count) and a searchable database. Also provides industry-related news.

Electronic Products & Systems Center
The CALCE Electronic Products and Systems Center is dedicated to providing a knowledge and resource base to support the development of competitive electronic components, products and systems. Offers a comprehensive set of information and services including CALCE Forum, Accelerated Test Webbook, CCA Failure Webbook, PWB Assembly Webbook, PEM Webbook, Defects Webbook, etc. Unfortunately, most of the site is available to members only.

Empowered Solutions
This is basically a job bank for people working in the service industry. The site tag is: Founded by former service industry executives, Empowered Solutions' objective is to provide client companies and hiring managers highly qualified individuals to fill critical roles.

www.erp-jobs.com LLC is a WWW on-line service/database, established in1998, that enables ERP & SCM (enterprise resource planning/supply chain management) professionals, end users, complimentary software firms, and implementation service companies to advertise their career/contract opportunities. In addition, there is a profiling database which automates the task of the employer as well as the job seeker.

erpSUPERSITE.COM
Major site for Enterprise Resource Planning. Provides news, forums, chat, product and financial information, books, and other information related to ERP and ERP products. Extensive link pages for SAP, Oracle, Baan, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, Microsoft, and other vendors. If you can get by the banner pages and heavy advertising content, it’s a very nice site.
